The following details about the Electroceutical therapy study were gathered from recent news reports:

  • Approximately 48 trial patients have been selected and enrolled in the single-site trial to be conducted at the University of New Mexico, based on their type of brain injury. All patients currently enrolled are said to have severe TBI cases.
  • Electroceutical therapy involves wearing a non-invasive, electronic device used to produce electromagnetic fields to stimulate the central nervous system.
  • The trail will test the effects of the pulsed electromagnetic stimulations and the easing or improving of symptoms of the brain injuries, and measure biomarkers for inflammation in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid.
  • Some patients may be fitted with an external ventricular drain that will drain excess cerebrospinal fluid.
  • Other vital signs will be monitored as well.
